The small things that are Much Bigger

During this stressful time in our lives we remind ourselves often that what is going on inside me and what’s toddling around us are much bigger than anything going on outside.

In previous years we would have given up the ENTIRE value of this home for our little Guatemalan we now have or the little girl we have coming.

I am now 21 weeks (and still barely showing). We’ll post belly pictures as soon as there is something to post. I bought some maternity shirts last week and the check out girl goes “Are you pregnant?!” And that was a day that I was wearing tight clothes and thought I did look pregnant. I am not complaining, I just think it is ironic that I looked more pregnant during our stressful infertility and adoption years when I gained weight from the stress.

At our sonogram appointment last week we found out she weighs almost a pound and babycenter.com says she is about 10 inches long. At the appointment they measured about everything and checked out her heart and brain. Everything looked great and we even got to see all four valves of her heart and her little diaphragm hiccuping!

It’s just so wonderful every time we leave the office with a good report from the high-risk doctors. God is starting to convince me that we might actually get learn what it takes to care for a newborn.  (I’m skipping the thoughts of birthing on purpose!)

She’s moving a lot which is so much fun. Josh felt her for the first time on Sunday morning. For some reason she woke up and kicked my hip hard about 6 times. It’s such a blessing we didn’t think we’d ever get to experience.

Josh said something sweet to Jadon when we were in one of our first sonogram appointments with him. Jadon went “oohhhh” when he saw the screen and Josh said, “Yeah, we got to see special pictures of you before we got to hold you too!!” I thought that was such a creative and thoughtful thing to say. May God continue to give us wisdom like that.

  1. oh I love hearing about this! Praise God for good and healthy news. I’ve been thinking about you a lot lately. Miss you!!

  2. What an awesome blog. I love hearing your perspective on pregnancy. And I loved Josh’s comment to Jadon, too. Perfect!

The kicking is most definitely the best part. Now that I see how freaking strong Amelia is, I see why I felt her kicking so much! :)

  3. So great! I love hearing about your pregnancy and how your family will soon be growing! Along with your belly! :)

  4. I will continue to pray for your family. It’s amazing how children will help us to put things in perspective.

  5. It seemed like I was pretty far along before I started showing with my first pregnancy, too.

I was kinda chubby, though….my uterus had to grow a lot to show through all that fat! (not saying that you’re fat….you’re pretty thin from what I remember :) )

I’ve started showing earlier with each pregnancy…now I’m barely 4 months along and I’ve got a noticeable baby bump!

As far as birthing is concerned….that’s the easiest part of raising children! LOL

  6. I also wanted to add…isn’t it just awe-inspiring to see the valves opening and closing on a tiny heart?? I just saw our baby on sonogram last Monday and I was in AWE of her tiny heart, already working so perfectly! Truly, we are fearfully and wonderfully made!!
