Bye, Beautiful Kodiak

We had to put down our beautiful, sweet dog Kodiak today. It was very sudden and it is very hard to deal with. One day he was fine, the next we are in the vet’s office having to make one of the worst decisions you have to make as an adult. The vet thinks he had a tumor on his spleen that was rupturing.

When we brought Kody home from the Humane Society 3 1/2 years ago, his paperwork said he was great with kids. Only recently were we able to observe how much he actually enjoyed them. One of the things we are most sad about is that our children will not be able to run around in the back yard with this dog, who would have enjoyed doing that more than anything. When we were saying goodbye to Kodiak, Jadon sunk his little chubby hand deep into Kodiak’s fur and I realized how incredibly sad it is that he is not going to remember this family dog.

Kodiak was a very special dog and we will miss his howling, which sounded like talking, and we’ll miss the welcome he would give us by putting his head between our knees and looking up at us with those big, beautiful blue eyes.

He was a beautiful, soft, wonderful dog.

  4. Oh, I am so sorry!! Our first baby (huge, weimeraner) was hit by a car when our oldest son was almost a year old. It was so traumatic. I was so sad and still miss him- that was over 10 years ago. I am very sorry you are going through this right now.

That picture will be precious to have of Jadon and Kodiak.

  9. Oh, Kodi, I’ll miss you the next time I visit. You were a very special dog and I loved you very much. (I’m crying at work here over a dog that’s not even mine – that’s how special you are!!) Thanks for being such a great friend to such a special family. We’ll miss you so much!!

  10. Jessica, I’m so sorry you had to put your dog to sleep! Our family dog died about 18 months ago from an intestinal illness. We didn’t realize how sick he was and he died in the backyard one night. :( He was still a puppy, only 7 months old and had been a birthday present for our 3 oldest girls (they are all May babies). It is amazing how attached we can become to these furry creatures!

Kodiak looks like a beautiful dog. I’m so sorry!
